April 8, 2025

The Legislature adjourned the regular session late last night. They are scheduled to return on April 10th for a brief veto session to consider any final budget changes and consider any Governor's vetoes.

During the regular session, SB 64 was the only bill passed that made adjustments to KPERS statutes. The bill extends the appeals window for our members from 30 days to 60 days, makes technical changes, and brings our statutes up-to-date with the Internal Revenue Code.

The Legislature approved a State Employee Pay Plan equal to 2.5% for most positions. The Legislature also added a requirement for agencies to report remote work policies to the Legislature, but did not mandate that state employees return to offices.

HB 2062 made adjustments to child support laws, that included allowing courts to garnish retirement accounts to pay child support arrearages. This is not a part of KPERS statutes, but does impact KPERS administration.

This is the first year of the two-year legislative cycle, so bills on the list below that have not passed will carryover to the 2026 session.
